Here in England throughout the summer IBM took out a full-page advert for DB2 UDB v8 in all of the top-selling IT weeklies. These have been replaced recently by a series of very puzzling, brand-based ads in which supposedly ordinary (but actually all very beautiful, and scrupulously ethnically diverse) people in ordinary work situations are pictured wearing boxing gloves. Somebody in "creative" has over-done it on the charlie I think ...!

I think the first campaign I remember that ever mentioned DB2 must have been the "Codernauts". IMHO IBM sees RDBMS like batteries in a car. You need them, you want a good one, but they don't belong into the ad for the car. Hmm... I wonder what VW would say if Bosch asked or a "Bosch inside" sticker (and a catchy jingle)....
