Well, there's an internal problem with OnLine which means it is unable to
start a sub-transaction (SAVEPOINT) necessary to allow it to roll back the
effects of a statement. The instructions to call Informix are correct -
no-one else is going to be able to help you. If you don't have a support
contract, now might be a good time to get one. There's a good chance that
you'll be asked to upgrade, and there's a good chance that upgrading will
evade the problem (that's different from fixing it!).
If that isn't an option for some reason, then your next best bet is to
start thinking in terms of recreating the OnLine instance. There are
simple things to try first, like taking OnLine off-line and back on-line
again; and you should be scrutinizing the OnLine log files to see whether
there are any other indications of what might be causing problems - but
you've probably already done all those and the problem is recurrent. Then
consider using an archive to rebuild the system as if it had crashed - but
back it up with ontape and either tbunload or dbexport or both before doing
anything radical.
