Returning problem
Posted in 1993
I've just found a problem with the CALL ... RETURNING syntax on the following platform: Machine: Sun 4/330 O/S: SunOS 4.1.2 4gl Version: 4.10.UC1 SE: 4.10.UC2 I have a c-function which, on a certain error situation runs the following code: retlong(-6); return(1); In the 4gl function which calls this, I had a line of the following form: CALL myfunc(..arguments..) RETURNING return_status_ return_status_ is defined as an Integer. With this form, I suffered a character to numeric conversion error. The value of the variable was zero. I don't know if that is the default setting (I don't set it) or if that is what the conversion error causes (seems reasonable). Changing the 4gl code to the form: LET return_status_ = myfunc(..arguments..), the correct value was picked up and displayed, and my code then displayed the error message the user was intended to see. Anyways, I can work round these for returning's with single arguments, I just hope multi-argument returning's work. Regards Neil -- Neil S.
