Hello All, I am trying to build a VB .Net application to access an IDS 9.40 database. This database must be able to store Chinese characters and also European characters. I am using Cli-Sdk 2.81.TC3 and the ODBC included in this package to access the database from VB .Net. If I use RDO in my VB.Net program to access data, I can not store and read this Chinese chars. With the same program, if I use ADO, there is no problem to store and read Chinese chars. What could be the origin of this issue? DB Setup? RDO not compatible with ODBC driver? What are the requirements at the database level to be able to store Chinese characters? Thank you for your feedback. P. Fornaciari Irium Technology p.fornaciari@regie-france.com
With Informix, The only way to keep UCS-2 (UTF-16) Unicode data in Informix is to use the "Unicode" datablade (of course, with 9.x engine). In my opinion, it's much better to store data in Informix with UTF-8 encoding using the usual 'varchar' or 'char' data types. The biggest problem with MS- clients is that most of them are only able to support UCS-2 and UTF-16. The question is whether particular client is able to perform the UTF-8 <-> UTF-16 conversion 'on the fly' Don't know exactly about specific VB data access methods... Believe me, You should be happy if one of them is able to do the conversion. I have a lot of headache accessing UTF-8 in Informix with MS tools ------------------------------------------ Alexey Sonkin > -----Original Message----- > From: forum.subscriber@iiug.org [mailto:forum.subscriber@iiug.org] On > > Hello All, > > I am trying to build a VB .Net application to access an IDS 9.40 database. > This database must be able to store Chinese characters and also > European characters. > > I am using Cli-Sdk 2.81.TC3 and the ODBC included in this package to > access the database from VB .Net. > > If I use RDO in my VB.Net program to access data, I can not store and > read this Chinese chars. > With the same program, if I use ADO, there is no problem to store and > read Chinese chars. > > What could be the origin of this issue? > DB Setup?
