IDS 10 works on Debian 3.1. Following are the prequisites for installation:
The glibc build for i686 processor should be installed automatically if a i686
or higher optimized kernel is selected in Debian installer. This can be
checked by e.g.
$ ldd /usr/bin/ftp
...
libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x40092000)
...
If libc.so.6 points to /lib/tls it should be OK.
Otherwise it must be installed manually:
apt-get install libc6-i686
If /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 is missing:
apt-get install libstdc++5
IDS installation use RPM packages. So you have to install and initialize RPM
on Debian first.
Add RPM:
apt-get install rpm
Check if the directory /var/lib/rpm exists. If it do not exist create an empty
directory /var/lib/rpm:
# mkdir /var/lib/rpm
Then initialize the rpm Database:
# rpm --initdb
Now the command 'rpm -qa' (for query all installed packages) should run
without printing an error message. It will return nothing because no rpm
package is installed until now.
Finally install IDS. The prefered method on Linux is using the install_rpm
script:
# ./install_rpm -acceptlicense=yes

We have installed several IDS 10.00 on Debian Sarge.
To avoid problems, you have to install Kernel 2.6 instead of Kernel 2.4
With Kernel 2.6 IDS 10.00 runs out of the box.
Using Kernel 2.4 you have to use a patched libpthread.
