crontab problem resolved

When all else fails ... rebuild the executables from the source code. The crontab entry and script were fine. Many folks helpfully suggested setting various environment variables i.e. DBPATH, INFORMIXDIR and others. Tracing the execution revealed that these were carried into the cron job and reflected the same environment as my login session. The one factor I failed to recognize was the system upgrade of two months back - an upgrade from AIX 3.2.1 to 3.2.5 .
