Re: Upgrading Informix from Online engine to Dynamic Server

Jane,
I did the upgrade from 5.0 to 7.12, in August of 1996, the upgrade
utility didn't work so I had to run dbexport/dbimport on all of the
databases. I recommend talking to the Informix helpdesk to find out if
there are any known problems with upgrading. Then run a few test runs
of the upgrade.
As far as tuning the server, it depends on your skill level,
experience and training.

I have been talking with Informix about upgrading our site from the 5.xx
Online engine to 7.2x Dynamic Server. They said there was no cost for the
upgrade because we are on maintenance but they quoted us a consulting fee of
$2000 per day plus expenses and said that most of their customers were using an
Informix consultant to do the upgrade and then tune. I know some of you have
been through that conversion. Did you use an Informix consultant? For how many
days? What about a Bi-Tech consultant? How smooth was the transition? Were
there any "gotchas" that we should be on the look-out for? Any info on this
would be appreciated. Thanks.
