The early RAID architectures were slow on disk writes. Storage Computer had these early RAID architectures running back in the mid-80s, but found they did not provide any performance enhancements over a single disk. Continuing RAID R&D, the company came out with the new, very high speed RAID architectures a few years ago. RAID 7 I/O acceleration takes care of performance problems with disk writes. One might want to consider benchmarking a 250 GB RAID 7 system versus the system mentioned to find out exactly how much the performance increase will be. (More info available at http://www.infoseek.com) We also have lots of performance info available here.
