Hi,
Although running an ontape -s archive in the background is not
recommended
by Informix due to the fact that it may hang online if the tape you
are
writing too needs to be changed. The reason for hanging up is ontape
will
continue to wait for a tape change and when the time comes for a
checkpoint
to be written, the checkpoint program will try to write out data to
the
archive tape and that will then hang OnLine.
However, if I am absolutely sure that the entire archive will fit
onto
tape or I make sure that I am writing to disk with enough space I am
OK....
My problem is ontape -s asks for a return to confirm the tape is
entered,
and waits for the very first tape, how do I enter the "Enter"
keystroke from
a korn shell. The following script does not work and is a copy of
the Joe
Lumbley script mentioned in his book for C shell. ( ^M - Control M
is a
carraige return ). I am running OnLine version 7.12 on a Sun Solaris
system.
# Begin script
ontape -s << EOF
0
^M
EOF
#End script
Any ideas appreciated...
Thanks

perhaps the following lines can help you:
$ nohup ontape -s < Retuen_file &
The Return_file is a file only contains a return key .
