IDS as the greenest database on the market.
Posted in 2008
Not a technical support thread but an off-topic debate/flame exchange. A poster claimed IDS is the "greenest" database, citing a site that cut server count (and electricity costs enough to pay for licences), and asserted Informix is the fastest OLTP engine while questioning why IBM publishes no TPC-C or TPC-E results. Others mocked the claim of being fastest with no published benchmarks, noted Informix never released them historically, and one suggested raising the issue in the IIUG 2008 survey. The rest degenerates into jokes about conspiracies and conference slides; no technical question or resolution is recorded.

Morgan Really? Talk to World Winner. Seems that they were able to reduce the number of servers required to support their users. Rumor had it that the reduction in electricity bills paid for the IDS licenses. Reducing a server room's electric requirements to run and cool the servers is a pretty big green thing. Informix is the fastest OLTP engine out there. Why IBM won't release a TPC-C or TPC-E benchmark is beyond me. Maybe there's this big conspiracy theory since IBM is Oracle's largest partner in sales and services. -G
