A user running IDS 7.13 on HP-UX 10.01 had lost the installation media and asked whether simply copying the whole /informix directory tree to a second, identically configured HP-UX box (with matching raw devices) would let a second instance start, and if so how to proceed. Replies mostly asked for clarification and complained about the lack of quoted context, with Art Kagel also warning that a second installation is probably not covered by their licence. No technical answer or working procedure is recorded in the thread.

We have one server in which IDS 7.13 instance is running on hp-unix 10.01. If we copy the entire directory structure of informix on a server in which no IDS instance is running, will it work?

Are you moving to a similar server with similar operating system levels? I hope this is in preparation for an inplace upgrade via 7.31 to 11.5 !! (hope spring eternal !) Keith
We have a production enviornment in which IDS 7.13 is running on hp-ux 10.01. we don't have IDS 7.13 Installation media. We missed out somewhere. There is an requirement of another IDS 7.13 instance we need to run. So We have second server in which hp-ux 10.01 is running but no IDS engine is there nor we have a media to install. Question:- If I'll copy the entire /informix directory structure from our production enviornment to the second server and configured according to second server in which only hp-ux 10.01 is installed and create a similar raw devices on second server, will IDS start on second server? if yes. please advice me how to proceed. If it will not work, please advice me why? Please help me.
Nor, likely, are you licensed for a second installation. Art Art S. Yes, I know we have a licensed. Should I proceed for configuration and how to start? Please advice me.
See, now here's the problem I've been pointing out for two weeks not. Not just with you, Deepak, but many posters. If you do not quote the original post thread we who frequent these forums have no way of knowing from this post exactly what help you need. I remember that you wanted help installing and configuring your server on a new system, but since I have deleted your other posts so they don't clog up my email inbox, I have no idea what you are installing or on what system. Again, DO NOT POST A FOLLOWUP POSTING WITHOUT QUOTING FROM THE ORIGINAL POST AND POSSIBLY FROM THE DIRECT POSTING TO WHICH YOU ARE REPLYING/COMMENTING/CONTINUING! Art Art S.
