Help Please
does anyone have recommendations at what to set NETTYPE at
we have following settings
NETTYPE soctcp,2,100,NET
currrently we have 233 connections to the db and has beeen as high as 444
Should I chnage it to
soctcp,4,100,NET
maybe
or
soctcp,8,50,NET
whats the diffences
if there are 244 connections and we have
NETTYPE soctcp,2,100,NET
would this cause a problem ?
Last time I checked the recomendation wa 1 poll thread per 200-300
connections.
Number of poll threas * connections is used for memory allocation to
network buffers. But this is dynamic.... setting it too low will force more
memory allocation/free (and more relevant aspects on Solaris due to TLI).
Not ideal, but not critical. In your case 2,250 should be ok.

The developers at IBM tell me that each poll "thread" can handle at least
350 connections efficiently on a busy system and as many as 500 for a
lighter load, and the number of connections that they will listen for is
dynamic, the NETTYPE setting for soctcp/tlitcp/drda is an initial
configuration. It is best to set up a sufficient configuration from the
beginning due to the overhead of expanding the memory structures at
runtime, so for ~440 concurrent connections change to:
NETTYPE soctcp,2,300,NET
and you will be more than covered for some growth. Your current
configuration is OK, but your users may experience a slight responsiveness
hiccup the first time the number of users goes above 200 for the first time
after a restart and again at about 400 users.
