I use 7.12 on Dec Alpha 3.2. Yes it is possible, but not easy. The password program is looking for input from a tty device. You cannot send it imput from another program. However there is a very fine public domain program called "expect" that sets up tty input. One of the examples that comes with it is a script to change passwords. I have used this in stored procedures to creat and change passwords. You should be able to find "expect" on the net. O'Reilly also has a book "Exploring Expect" that talks about it.
