FYI Someone posted to Comp.Databases.Oracle.Server that one of the core Linux FS developers (not named) has developed a TRUE RAW device extension to the 2.2.2 kernel. He pointed me to the UK Linux archives but I assume the source is everywhere so the subdirectory and file is: ..../sct/raw-19990326.tar.gz Ain't open source wonderful. I've been waiting 2 years for Data General to fix the rcmd() function in DG/UX, a far simpler problem I'm sure and here the 2.2.2 kernel is not even two months old and already a new feature request has been filled. The report mentions the module is only Beta so caviat emptor. Anyone with a 2.2.2 kernel brave enough to give it a try? Art S. Kagel
