The link needs to be a 'hot' one and not : the usual flat-file link. What you need is ODBC. The "classic" solution is an ODBC driver for Informix (available from Intersolv, former Q+E) which runs on top of I-Net/PC. On the host side, you need I-Net/I-Star, too. There are other vendor's solutions which neither require an Informix-specific ODBC driver nor I-Net on both sides, but have modules running both on the PC and the host. Check out Visionware, for example. With ODBC, you can directly import your Informix (and other database's) date into Excel, Word and many other ODBC-aware Windows applications.
