NEWERA - beforerow -- supertable class

I have developed a supertable class (ppsuptab). In the beforerow event I determine the current row of number of rows retrieved to display at the bottom of the window. No problems. In the derived supertable (mysuptab) I need to do some look ups in the beforerow event, however this beforerow event overrides the inherited beforerow event and the display number of rows disappears. The closest acceptable solution I have been offered is to include an "extrabeforerow" function at the end of the beforerow event in class ppsuptab that does nothing and override this function in derived class mysuptab. Problem is that this imposes a seperate external rule for our installation eg "For classes derived from ppsuptab do not put code in beforerow event use extrabeforerow function".
