?? Merging Informix with Web

Can anyone help?? I am trying to create a intranet page that accesses an Informix database. The page does a server side include to create a select list for a form. The options for the select list are items queried from the database. The problem is that when I access the page, the esql/c program I have doing the select returns in error code of -956 when trying to access the database. I know that error usually means to add the client to the hosts.equiv or .rhosts file, but that is not an option in this case. Is it possible to do this with my version of Informix software?
