Art & Family, that was quite correct; I had encountered a bug (the engineer did not give me the number) and the solution was to simply bounce the engine, leaving the ONCONFIG file unchanged. Then I was able to recreate the temp space properly. I got a bit panicky because the users would not allow me to bounce the engine at that time. BTW this applied only to the temp space. All other dbspaces in the server were drop & recreate with no problem at all. Thanks. -- J
