HPL will be the best option for loading *big* tables. As a rule of thumb, if
there are less than 10000 rows, don't bother. (Doesn't sound too applicable
in your case, but I thought I'd mention it.)

Fear not! Help is at hand. Head over to http://www.iiug.org and check out
the software downloads. In particular, there's a directory called lsdw,
which contains shell scripts that allow you to populate the onpload database
quickly. It is a little blunt (and entirely unsupported), but I think it'll
save you plenty of time. It works for me.
