IBM's new marketing man in action...
Posted in 2009
I guess we should all welcome IBM IM's latest effort in their marketing of IDS. Please give a big round of applause to wikking, which really translates to the 'king of wankers'. Yes, the silly git who is using an alias not yet 72 hours old comes here professing deep inside knowledge and faith for IBM's magical numbers. Now don't get me wrong. I would love to see IBM's sales of IDS grow. Not just in number of licenses, but also in net new customers. IMHO 100 net new customers and licenses has a larger impact than just 100 new licenses at an existing account like Wal*Mart. But alas, the king of wankers' sole purpose is to wear the rose colored glasses as he hands out the big blue cool aid. Those of us who've been around for a while are a bit immune to the effects of the cool aid. We know to question what is being said by IBM. That we've heard the promises all before and yet nothing has been done. I listened to Jerry's talk. I even asked the question about benchmarks. I'll be the first to admit that Jerry has a point. Benchmarks are expensive. (We just don't know how expensive) And that once you start playing in the benchmark wars, you have to keep playing. To that point, at least its taking a stand where the results are visible. We all agree (well except for Serge, Mark, and Daniel) that IDS is the better product on the market. Yet we also know that IBM has continued to treat IDS as its bastid step child. So King of Wanks, what can you say besides claiming that I and others are spreading FUD when you have neither said anything of value, nor do you have a long history of being in the Informix community. C'mon. Lets see what IBM has spent their marketing dollars on! Please share! -G
