You're badly wrong. Delphi has several native drivers for several = databases (including Informix) which *are* faster than ODBC. Why do you = tell such things without any benchmarks? Native drivers *have* to be = proprietary because they are build by one thirdparty manufacturer. But = when I'm using I-CLI, Openlink or Intersolv drivers they're also = proprietary because I can't exchange them with each other. And when one = company dies I have to buy another proprietary ODBC driver. so, where's = the advantage of a "non-proprietary" JDBC ? I didn't get at least one *real* handbook which explains in detail = how to setup these drivers or if there are any character conversion = problems (and things like that). Maybe as a one-year unix admin and = informix admin you have no problems setting them up. Interesting opinion: What do you think about the security holes which = are actually found in Unix systems from SGI, SUN, HP (HP-UX and the = RLOGIN problem)? I also was angry about the "ping-of-death" problem with = the MS TCP/IP stack. But the problem was solved damned fast by = microsoft. And absoulety free via the internet without any support = contracts I need for my UNIX system. I also have to have support = contracts just to have the right to buy teh next update for my UNIX OS. cu Reiner
