I have seen this symptom when I set up my OnLine system with a
SERVERNAME like abcd but had neglected to set my INFORMIXSERVER
environment variable to this value before starting the oninit. Hence,
if you run ipcs -m you will see the shared memory siting there but any
other command you run is useless because it required INFORMIXSERVER to
match the name in the instance you ran.
Do not run oninit -i again. Merely set this env. variable and try
onmonitor.

I presume (and I could be wrong) that you are doing this as a user whose
.profile HAS been properly set and is, therefore, able to attach to the
instance. If I am worng about this - well, never mind the above advice
either - it's based on as assumption.
