As someone else suggested, check the permissions on the rootdbs file. chown informix:informix rootdbs; # On POSIX.2 compliant machines chmod 660 rootdbs; Also check that your kernel is configured to allow shared memory. For example, on Sun Solaris, you have to modify the configuration file /etc/system to specify that shared memory (and semaphores) are to be included in the kernel -- and then reboot the machine for the change to take effect. This might be covered in the release notes for your machine notes. Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@informix.com) #include <witticism.h> PS: In general, it is a good idea to indicate which version of OnLine (XPS, IUS, UDO, XPO, OWS, ODS, ... :-) you are using, and which machine you are using it on. I'd say OnLine 7.24.UC1 on Sun Sparc running Solaris 2.5.1, for example.
