PL/Ruby for Informix

I'm planning to write PL/Ruby for Informix. I've made some research and found that I need to implement a UDRLM (User Defined Routine Language Manager.) There's nothing about creating a UDRLM in the manuals: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v10/index.jsp Googling around I just found this: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6223179.html Does anybody know how can I get documentation about how to create my own UDRLM? Thanks in advance. -- Gerardo Santana http://santanatechnotes.blogspot.com
Just had fun looking for the patent: http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1 &u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=6223179.PN.&OS=PN/6223179 &RS=PN/6223179 At least it belongs to Informix, there were so much Oracle-support posts lately, I had doubts... > -----Original Message----- > From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list- > bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Gerardo Santana > Sent: Wednesday, December 20, 2006 03:07 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > Subject: PL/Ruby for Informix > > I'm planning to write PL/Ruby for Informix. > > I've made some research and found that I need to implement a UDRLM > (User Defined Routine Language Manager.) > > There's nothing about creating a UDRLM in the manuals: > http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v10/index.jsp > > Googling around I just found this: > http://www.freepatentsonline.com/6223179.html > > Does anybody know how can I get documentation about how to create my > own UDRLM? > > Thanks in advance. > > -- > Gerardo Santana > http://santanatechnotes.blogspot.com > > _______________________________________________ > Informix-list mailing list > Informix-list@iiug.org > http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list

Good luck with that. Once you find out how to do this, let me know, I'd like to do the same for Python ;) And now for a slightly less AOL-me-too-type response, here is a thought: IDS can execute Java UDRs, and Ruby has a Java implementation. I don't actually know Ruby, so I don't know whether this would be feasible, but it might be worth checking out. I have done experiments with making Java UDRs in Python via Jython, and it almost works. The only problem is that Java UDRs must be defined via static methods, Jython can currently only provide instance methods, and Jython development appears to be stalled. When I get an answer I'll let you know, pythonfan ;) But judging from the scarcity of the information on the web, I'm not sure of a positive answer. > > And now for a slightly less AOL-me-too-type response, here is a thought: > IDS can execute Java UDRs, and Ruby has a Java implementation.
