---------- Connie Cocanougher (conniec1@worldnet.att.net) asked: >My manager wants to make sure there is no problem with Informix with regard >to the date Sept 9, 1999. I have not seen anything on the newsgroup about >that being a problem, but apparently some applications mark "EOF" with >9/9/99. >Does anyone have any insight? Informix attaches no significance to 1999-09-09 other than being the day after 1999-09-08 and before 1999-09-10. The applications which are most likely to run into problems with 9/9/99 use a CHAR field to store dates rather than a DATE field. For such applications, your manager's concerns are valid. If your applications use CHAR fields to store dates, start worrying, and not just about 9/9/99 but also about Y2K in general. If your applications only use DATE fields, then there is no cause for concern about 1999-09-09. There may or may not be cause for concern about Y2K problems; that's a whole separate issue. The database itself is safe enough, but your applications might run into problems during data entry and display if you do not allow for 4 digits in the year.
