MORE Bugs in 5.02UD6?
Posted in 1994
Folks,
I just discovered this one on a site 2000 miles from home 40 minutes
after Informix support closed for the weekend. We went from 5.01 to
5.02.UD2 and had all the problems that caused them to pull 5.02.UD2
from the market. After all their hoopla and "proactive" BS, Informix
sent me their "new, improved" 5.02.UD6 that was going to cure the
memory leak fixes.....ad nauseum.
Being the paranoid DBA that I am, I called support and asked them about
the release. I posted to the Net asking if anyone had had problems.
Nothing significant. Then two days ago I posted about a GROUP BY
wierdness. Got two Net responses from HP gurus who said there was a
problem with GROUP BY in 5.02UD6. Great, I'd already installed one
about 1000 miles from the office, but the system was working ok with
only the GROUP by problems.
Now I'm in LA trying to install 5.02.UD6 and run across this. DBACCESS
complains about a ERROR 206 (Cannot allocate memory) when you try to
get table status twice in a row in dbaccess. This is a pain, but it
can be lived with for a while.......but.....
Has anybody seen anything else wrong with 5.02UD6 (especially on HP)? Is
there another killer just waiting for me to get on an airplane to come
back home before it manifests itself? I'm not feeling real comfortable
with this product :(
And a further, rhetorical question. Has Informix ever heard the term
"regression testing"? You'd think that if 5.02 was so bad that they
had to take it off the market, that when they re-released it they
would try to test it a little. Like maybe it might be a little
****EMBARASSING**** to them do make the same stupid mistakes twice
in a row?
