Migrating from INGRES
Posted in 1994
After 10 years of kicking the dead INGRES whale along the beach I have had enough. I need to find something else for a new project (ie I have no investment in code or anything else except expertise to preserve). Sybase and Informix are on my shortlist and I'd like to hear from anyone who can compare either of these products with INGRES. This will be an OS/2 system with the server and application development on the same machine at first. I need a tool comparable in spirit to INGRES Windows4GL, except it has to actually work and not just sound good. I also want a good implementation of SQL--that is, I want as many extensions as possible over the standard so that I can actually get some work done with it. I also want to know what you think of the company: is the product reliable and bug-free enough that you can believe they really did some beta-testing? Is tech suppport worth talking to? Is product in stock and does it ship on time? Is the pricing "reasonable?" In short, why should I buy your favorite product? If you don't want to answer these questions in public you can E-mail me at bkb@supernet.ab.ca Many thanks for your time. ======================================================================== Roy Hann bkb@supernet.ab.ca BKB Engineering Ltd., (MIME-capable mail agent) 11211-76th Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta Tel: (403)438-2531 (office) T6G 0K2 (403)437-0860 (home) Canada FAX: (403)436-6055 ========================================================================
