Informix/NET platform interoperability
Posted in 1999
We have a problem with interoperablility between Informix 7.24 running on an HP-UX machine (10.20 I think,) and a binary statically linked against 7.24 libraries for a Solaris 2.6 machine. The solaris binary works fine with the local informix 7.3, doing what it is supposed to do no problem(1). But it fails with HP-UX informix. There is I presume no permissions problem as the code can successfully create temporary tables and triggers on the HP-UX database, which would ensure that the binary had write permissions to the database. Error messages have proved useless, as the informix text messages provided contain no useful text, and I can find nowhere to deference the error codes. As this is probably less information than is needed to provide precise diagnostics, all I'm asking is: 1. Is this sort of problem common? Our HP-UX informix development machine has problems staying up more than 5 minutes when running the informix database. I therefore presume that informix pokes about in places it shouldn't (I heard a rumour that informix provide software based on hardware spicifications, instead of by OS/processor.) 2. Is there a better way of producing error text, other than rgetmsg(), which seems to be mainly useless. Cheers, Christian Smith Note 1. The binary monitors transactions on a table, by duplicating a table definition into a temporary table, adding a transaction type column to the temp table, than creates triggers that inserts into the table the transaction type (insert, update, delete) and values of the table being monitored.
