Informix Dynamic Server Ver 9.21UC7XC
On
Sun Solaris 2.8
Hi All,
We have two informix instances on the same box.
Now we have a requirement where we have to refresh one
environment from other.
Does anyone knows of some tricks or good ways to make
it possible using ontape?
The devices for chunks in two instances are not
similar so ontape is not able to restore the backup
taken on instance1 to instance2.
I know I can use dbexport but are database is too big
for the same.
If someone has good ideas , please let me know.
Thanks in advance.

You could try something clever with chroot.
Otherwise use onunload but be aware that, due to a bug in ononload in 9.21,
this will be more-or-less unviable unless instance 2 contains the same
dbspaces (not chunks, dbspaces) as instance1.

You might be able to do something clever with OS/hardware mirroring,
you need both instances to been mirrored and the chunk paths will have
to be relative not absolute.
Instance 1, diskA mirror on DiskB
Instance 2, diskC mirror on DiskD
Break instance 1 mirror
Logically make DiskB appear in the same place as DiskC
Add DiskC to instance 1 to re-establish mirror
Bring up Instance 2 and attach DiskD
I have feeling this will not work, but it's early and I've not
had enough caffiene yet.
Cheers
Paul
