Informix KAIO on SCO 5.0.4

Has anyone had luck enabling KAIO on a SCO 5.0.4 server? I am using IDS 7.23.UC6, and per the release notes, installed the SCO aio and suds drivers. When I brought up IDS with KAIOON=1, again as per the release notes, online crashed with an errno=14. Some root pages were corrupted and I had to do a cold restore from archive! Luckily it was a development system, so only the programmers were screaming. Informix tech support found a few similar cases, all ending with "call SCO". They suggested raising the kernel parameters - NAIOREQ and NAIOBUFF - from 200 to 400.
