Hi. We're currently porting a 4gl system running on AIX box to an NT box. d4gl 2.10 IDS 7.3 WinNT 4.0 sp5 We used to print our reports by first outputting the report to a file, so the user can either view on screen, download, or print out. 1. to print, " lp -d printpc report.txt" 2. to view "view report.txt" (view is a program we wrote in C) the question now is, what is the best way of doing this in an NT Environment. We're very new to an NT setting and we were told that all we need is to "recompile" and everything will work as is... yeah right. Any pointers would be great. If there's an FAQ for this , I'd like to have a "pointer" to it. thanks, Joben

With QueriX, You can quite easily do the same in an NT environment. As far as reports go you should just be able to compile with QueriX and the reports would be output to a file just as before. In addition, when using REPORT TO SCREEN, if you set VIEWER=notepad.exe for example, the reports can automatically be viewed in notepad or other programs, i.e. your view program (once compiled on NT). The advantage of using notepad is that that will then handle the printing for you, so instead of you users typing "lp ..." they can just click on print. Another solution with QueriX on NT is to output as before to a file, then use the RUN statement to execute a print manager to print the file you've just output. A further Solution with QueriX is to automatically generate HTML reports, using a browser for viewing and printing. Last but not least with QueriX on NT, you get an IDE environment which allows building and debugging your cod at a touch of a button. If you need any more information about this or other issues don't hesitate to get in touch.
