Look at the global environment variable DBTEMP. If it is not set it will point to /tmp - which is bad news for any sane system. All users should set this to their very own $HOME/tmp, and this space should be big enough to hold all the temporary data that Informix needs to write out from time to time. When the temp directory space gets full, Informix does weird things on different systems, and hanging is one of them that's fairly common. Restarting Informix and noting that everything is fine for a while is a real good clue that DBTEMP is pointing to a sparse disk space - like /tmp. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- John R.
