Hello Colin, The "dostats" is a very fine product that would be hard to beat. The only things the might help are "LIGHT_SCANS=FORCE", creating multiple temp Dbspaces on ramdrive (you can use PSORT_DBTEMP for this), use PSORT_NPROCS, DS_TOTAL_MEMORY 4000000, MAX_PDQPRIORITY 100, DS_MAX_QUERIES 1, and a SQL something like this: SET EXPLAIN ON; SET ISOLATION TO DIRTY READ; SET PDQPRIORITY 100; UPDATE STATISTICS low FOR TABLE big_tablename; UPDATE STATISTICS high FOR TABLE big_tablename (first_column_name_of_index1, first_column_name_of_index2,first_column_name_of_index3); I am glossing over many things here (Informix-wise and O.S.-wise) but I hope I've peaked your interest and you will do some Google searches to learn more. Then test it all on your DEVELOPMENT server first! Let me add that from a hardware pespective you should have each fragment on its own disk (or LUN) and try to eliminate all swapping. -L.S.
