restoring just from logical log tape

When I run 'ontape -r', it asks me if I want to restore from an archive
tape (an 8mm tape) after restoring from level0 backup (a DLT tape). Is
there any way to just go straight to that 8mm tape for restore and
bypass the hour I have to wait for the level0 restore to complete
before getting the prompt for archive tape restore?
thanks!

Where would Informix begin the process? Are you looking to restore
only the transactions in a given log?

Hi,
using ontape you can:
- restore single dbspaces. This can be
a cold restore of critical dbspaces (while
the server is down) or a warm restore of
non-critical dbspaces (while the server is
up).
- you can split the restore into a physical restore
part ("ontape -p") and a logical log restore part
("ontape -l") that has to follow the physical restore.
- a restore of any dbspace always starts with the
restore of a level-0 archive. This can be followed
by optional restore of level-1 and possibly level-2
archives, before restoring logical logs.
- you cannot start a logical log restore before having
done a physical restore.
- you cannot start a level-1 (or level-2) restore before
having done the level-0 restore.
- it does not matter what devices you have configured
for TAPEDEV (which is for physical backup/restore of
dbspaces) and LTAPEDEV (which is for logical log
backup/restore).
Therefore your question is not quite clear as other people
don't really know what "DLT tape" and "8mm tape" are
used for on your system. The terms physical restore
and logical (log) restore are much clearer.

Martin
