KAIO and PDQ PRIORITY
Posted in 1998
Hi!
Here is the problem:
we were using no pdq queries for some period of time (MAXPDQPRIORITY was
set to 0) but when we decided to use it (we have a lot of stored proc
with SET
PDQPRIORITY HIGH inside of it) we set it (MAXPDQPRIORITY) to 40.
And when 2 queries (in different session) with the PDQPRIORITY HIGH
start working in parallel one of it stop working (previously it works 2
sec and I was
waiting for 2 minutes) -> had seen the log and saw the following:
10:43:47 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
10:53:47 dynamically allocated new shared memory segment (size 8388608)
10:53:50 dynamically allocated new shared memory segment (size 8388608)
10:53:53 KAIO: out of OS resources, errno = 11, pid = 4120
10:53:53 KAIO: out of OS resources, errno = 11, pid = 4121
10:53:58 KAIO: out of OS resources, errno = 11, pid = 4120
Looks like UNIX has not enough memory.
Nothing helps to make my session stop idling and i had to kill it. When
we restored MAXPDQPRIORITY to 0 all start working fine but PDQ HAD
TO SPEED UP OUR QUERIES !.
My question is -- how I could use PDQ without such problems ?
Sincerely, Alexander
P.S. We are using 7.23TC1 on NCR MP-RAS SVR4 UNIX System V Release 4.0
All dbspaces is on raw devices placed on RAID 5.
