One side note... It seems that analysts who are covering the story know DB2, they also know mySQL. But they don't seem to know anything about Informix. Seriously. Go read some of the articles talking about the potential acquisition of SUN. I kid you not. No mention of IDS or Informix. Just DB2. So Jerry, it looks like all of your marketing efforts are really working. ;-) :-P -G _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™: Life without walls. http://windowslive.com/explore?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_allup_1a_explore_032009

Do they go to IOD like conferences? Did they access http://ibm.com/software/data and click on Data Management? Do they read press releases? Again... I would expect more... -- Fernando Nunes Portugal http://informix-technology.blogspot.com My email works... but I don't check it frequently...
I hadn't seen the new register's article this morning. I know I did pop them a note yesterday making a comment about the lack of knowledge on IDS, so who knows? Analysts that cover IBM should know their product lines, at least at a 50-30,000 foot view. If the analysts don't know anything about the Information Management pillar, then Ambush should have a bone to pick with someone in investor relations. (Or Steve Mills for that matter). This goes to the crux of the problem is that IBM sells so many products, no one knows them all and I'll wager that there's no one within S&D that can intelligently speak to all of the offerings just in Information Management. No seriously. IMS, U2, IDS, Ass-n-tail's Datastage, Solid, DB2 (mainframe,as400,LUW), and the glue stuff. Not to mention CM software... Its a lot to know and know well. If you were a SWITA, you'd have to add in Rational's stuff, and Websphere's... Not an easy task since most of those in IM are DBAs and not App developers. So who do you blame for a lack of education to the analysts about SWG's product line(s)? Hello MARKETING!!!? But what do I know? I refused to put on the Gorilla suit... ;-) (AXA commercials) -G > From: domusonline@gmail.com > Subject: Re: Just to make things interesting... ;-) > Date: Thu, 19 Mar 2009 13:43:25 +0000 > To: informix-list@iiug.org > > Ian Michael Gumby wrote: > > > > One side note... > > > > It seems that analysts who are covering the story know DB2, they also > > know mySQL. > > But they don't seem to know anything about Informix. > > > > Seriously. > > > > Go read some of the articles talking about the potential acquisition of SUN. > > > > I kid you not. At no stage did either of them attend any sessions about Informix.

Its not so much 'database' analysts but financial analysts that cover IBM as a whole. _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live™ Groups: Create an online spot for your favorite groups to meet. http://windowslive.com/online/groups?ocid=TXT_TAGLM_WL_groups_032009
