You will not even be able to get 200 users on a PC server > (even 2 processor) and get any speed (...) You wouldn't actually need a PC server. The JET engine is just Microsofts' VB/Database/ODBC/... compatibility layer so you'll only need every PC to have a local program directory and they'll talk to Informix directly. No PC Server, No multi-user Access database. We use this kind of setup in the health industry and it works Okay. The fastest bit is actually the database side. Slowest bit is any computation in Visual Basic but we get round this by rewriting bitz in C++. By the way, the UNIX Informix server loves it. It just gets to pound away at the database without having to worry about running the applications as well - There might be something in this distributed-processing after all!?! ;-) P.S. We use Visionware's ODBC. Visionware have just been bought by SCO and have good, fast, lo-cost drivers for Informix, Or***e and Sybase. -- ============================================================================ Scott Leckie ###### Systems Development Manager # # ##### #### #### # # #### PROSYS # # # # # # # # # # 15 Royal Crescent ###### # # # # #### # #### Glasgow, UK # ##### # # # # # G3 7SL # # # # # # # # # # Tel: (+44) 141 332 9980 # # # #### #### # #### Fax: (+44) 141 332 2991 Mob: (UK) 0421 597764 *********************************************** ============================================================================
