question about temp file error

hi all:
I am running online 7.22 on solaris 2.6. I ran a sql which suppose
to group and sort on 10 different fields. I ran it, and it came back
with the following error after 20 mins:
229: Could not open or create a temporary file.
Error in line 13
Near character position 40
now, I have 2 tempdb allocated, each one of them have about 6 gig in it
raw disk space, what should I check?
thanks a lot.

Tempspace for sort-work files is allocated according to the following
algorithm:
if set(PSORT_DBTEMP) then
Place work files round-robin in the filesystems listed in
PSORT_DBTEMP.
else if set(DBSPACETEMP) in user's environment then
Place work files round-robin in the dbspaces listed in
DBSPACETEMP in the user's environment.
else if set(DBSPACETEMP) in engine's environment at startup then
Place work files round-robin in the dbspaces listed in
DBSPACETEMP in the engine's environment.
else
Place work files in ROOTDBS.
endif
So... Check the various environments and variables. Hint: If
PSORT_DBTEMP is set incorrectly you would also see an ISAM error 2 (No
such file or directory) or if the filesystems were too small ISAM error
28 (No space left on device). I therefore suspect that the problem is
that DBSPACETEMP and PSORT_DBTEMP are unset and rootdbs is too small
to hold the sort-work files.

Shouldn't the engines onconfig file DBSPACETEMP setting go here?
