Finding out who is connected
Posted in 1999
Topics: General Discussion
Refer to www.sqlpower.com.
The Sql Power SniFFFer with ZERO impact upon the database server will
report:
1. the number of users currently connected,
2. each login id for every connection,
3. the IP address and port number the user connected from, and
4. the SQL transaction currently in progress for each login id.
Furthermore:
1. as SQL transactions complete, any subset may be displayed in real-time at
a GUI with their performance statistics.
2. any SQL transaction flow from any prior time period may be reconstructed
on a system or login id basis.

I have two questions:
1) We often need to find out who is connected to and doing what on our
Informix database server when we get access problems when trying to run
database update scripts. The server is running on Nt4. I have looked at
onstat -u and onstat -k but find it difficult to interpret the hex codesto find out who is doing what on which database/table.
I looked at the sysmaster database and in particular the syslocks tables.
However, this always lists sysmaster for the database, and I think,
systables for the table.
Has anyone developed a slick way of obtaining this information correctly
and easily?
2. Related to question 1, all the logins to the database server are
set to use the informix login. This causes problems with onstat -u
although the workstation number does help. I have tried setting up
individual accounts to access the database but keep getting a -951 error
when using the ilogin facility. As mentioned previously the database is
running on an Nt4 server. Individual accounts have been set up on the NT
server but are not set up to be able to log on to the server. Has
anybody got any guidelines as to what the minimum requirements are for
setting up an NT server so that users connect to the database in a client
server mode?
Thanks
