Re: 4go/4gi format ?

The Informix Forms (FourGen CASE) tools do this in a different manner. They create a library list of all the functions in each .4gl file function filename and then parse this list to figure out what .4go files a program needs based on the functions called within that program. This is a much easier solution than trying to directly read the .4go files. Use awk for the parser, it is faster than using sed. ---- original message from Li Chuan Dunlop ---- ++ ++ Hi all! ++ ++ I'm looking for info on the format of .4go files, in paticular being ++ able to find defined and undefined symbols in the files. ++ ++ Specifically, I would like to build an intelligent linker to create ++ .4gi files from libraries of .4go files, that same way that the ++ 'ld' linker allows archive libraries to be used. ++ ++ The reason for this is that we have an application suite with a LARGE ++ number of modules, and it's a pain in the butt trying to keep track of ++ which modules need to be concatenated together to produce the .4gi's ++ so that we have a functioning program without linking in unneccesary ++ modules. ++ ++ Even better, does anyone have such a linker already ? ++ ++ IMHO, it's very slack of Informix not to supply such a thing with the ++ RDS development environment - just goes to show they're not serious ++ about large application development and multi-platform deployment. ++ ++ Anyone at Informix care to reply ? ++ ++ Cheers. ++ ++ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ++ Li-Chuan Dunlop, s925095@minyos.xx.rmit.edu.au ++ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ++ -- Jerry M.
