LRU_MIN_DIRTY, LRU_MAX_DIRTY and CKPINTVL all affect the frequency and type
of write from cache carried out, and thereby the write cache write.
Beware that simply raising the value of BUFFERS will not necessarily
increase your cacheing rates, but may reduce performance in other areas.
I think it's important not to get too obsessed with these rates. In the
early 1990s I worked at a site (not Informix) where they had a gremlin-type
figure who had a sort of roving brief for "performance". At his instigation
my performance as a DBA was valued in terms of the cacheing rates I could
squeeeze out of the DBMS. In fact, there wasn't much I could do to improve
performance since the applications were badly-designed, so instead I set up
a series of evening and weekend programs to continually read the same record
repeatedly, often millions of times a night. Obviously this caused the
cache rates to soar, and I was the Golden Boy!
