SPL string concatination

I am running Informix-Online Dynamic Server, Version 7.2, and having difficulty doing string concatination in stored procedures. My first attempt was to use the same syntax as 4GL (the comma), but then learned by reading the manuals that I was trying to assign to multiple variables. I am trying to do something similar to below: DEFINE string CHAR(40); LET string = "This", " string." Does anyone have any idea on how to do this in SPL?
