Informix, ODBC, and Access

We are using Informix CLI, Connect, etc to connect Access to Informix 7.12. So far, this has gone pretty well, as we can get the data we want, and so on. What we'd like to do is set this up so that the user who's using a notebook in his travels, goes from place to place, and hooks into the local network, and retrieves information from the local host and instance of Informix. I'd guess this will require setting up a message box which requests target host and so on, to build the ODBC connect string. Anyone have any experience with that kind of activity?
