Firstly it should not take the whole 8 hours to rollback, but it will not rollback quickly. Secondly in some versions, pre v7 I have seen this behaviour, but not since, there can be problems with logical recovery if the system runs out of locks while rolling back a transaction. Otherwise there should be no problem. I dont think there is a more gracefull way of recovering.
