Hi, We are planning to upgrade from 7.24 to either 7.30 or 7.31 on a HP-9000 box (HP-UX 10.20). Any suggestions or precautions I need to take into account? What's the diff between 7.30 & 7.31 ? What's recommended ? Where can I get more info on this? The Informix web-site doesn't help much. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. NUMBER 1 --- BE PREPARED FOR BUFFER POOL PROBLEMS!! A number of us have seen buffer pools being eaten alive by btree pages (mine went to 99.5+% btree at times) and the CPU load went to double or triple its normal value. Primary culprit seems to be that some index pages in the database are 'mis-coded' so that they remain in the buffer pool well after their useful life. Apparently a drop/create of the indexes corrects the coding. In our case (using SAP/R3), I've got over 11000 indexes on 8000+ tables, so I'm trying to determine exactly which indexes need to be touched. Even after the index fixing, I don't know if CPU load will decrease. We got a patch through SAP that disabled the buffer priority logic and our CPU load is now averaging less than 1 (4 CPUs on a HP T520) versus and average of 3 to 4 with the patch off. MAYBE, after I get all the indexes done, I'll drop the patch and see what happens.
