It would help a lot if you supply an example that gives you trouble. It's also a good to give information of IDS version and OS. LENGTH() is not just one function. hello all, when i try to use LENGTH in a simple select statement, i receive the error "routine (length) ambiguous - more than one routine resolves to given signature". there is no length procedure we have created and was of course expecting informix to use its pre-defined stored proc. can anyone tell me what is going on here and how i can fix it? thank you very much, tom

Probably parameter of a length function you have constructed is an expression and type of that expression is not clear. Try to cast that parameter explicite.
