You should write your visual basic application to the ODBC interface. Then any version of middleware that supports ODBC and Informix should do to make the connection. There are many, EDA/SQL from Information Builders, I think Informix has an ODBC driver and Pacer, the company I work for, has a DAL Server for Unix. I hope this helps you in your search.
