Re: I/O error in message log

The sys admins checked for error messages in the system logs
and found none. Informix Support was called and oncheck -pe would
not work (IIRC unknown error 0). (oncheck -cr was not run by
oversight).
The database was bounced and then oncheck worked. Later that night
the box was bounced and the messges have not come back. Good!
The Informix engineer explained that as chunk 0 is not a real chunk
it could be either a bad page on disk or in memory. As the error
messages stopped after the bounce and there was no error in the sys
logs it must have been something wrong with the memory.
He also mentioned that there is a bug with nrows (or pages) not being
updated in the sys catalog tables even with an update stats, so if
you have a table that is being deleted from and the config paramaters
RA_PAGES is anything but 0 (and of course it is for performance) then
this problem can occur. The fix in that case would be to set RA_PAGES
to 0.
