Thread repeated below. There is little to choose between them as transaction processing engines for a reasonable volume of transactions. Both will throw benchmarks at you showing they are faster than the other. To resolve this, go and see installations of your sort of size, running the version of Baan you want to get on the sort of hardware you have or will acquire. Don't get too hung up, just so long as the order of magnitude is about right... The likelihood is that you will actually decide on the basis of much softer issues than this. Issues like: o Do you already have Oracle skills, but no Informix skills? o Which company will give you the best support in your territory o Is Baan going to keep up a stream of Oracle releases as dilligently as a stream of Informix releases o does your Chief Finance Officer believe Informix' recent losses will prove temporary Because the acquisition of an ERP package (or whatever bit you're getting from Baan) is (typically) a very substantial investment, it will heavily influence the subsequent diretion of your entire IT Strategy. There you would have to think carefully. Does Oracle or Informix have the better strategy for your overall IT infrastructure? I don't want to go into detail here as I would be fantasising requirements on your behalf. I just want to highlight that you might want to look beyond Baan at the other requirements you have. (An unpopular suggestion no doubt. The art of project management is to focus on the special case and not get distracted by grand, generalised strategies.)
