Migration from IDS 9.3 to IDS 9.40.FC7
Posted in 2006
We are trying to test an in-place upgrade from IDS 9.30.FC? to IDS 9.40.FC7 on an IBM AIX 5.2 system. The test system we have is a cut-down version of the live system. What I mean by that is that there are some missing dbpaces and chunks on the test system as we don't want to maintain a copy of the full system (38 dbspaces and about 120 chunks). We shut the system down with IDS 9.3, moved the old informix software to a new directory, installed the new informix software, set the environment variables etc, and then restarted informix. It didn't come up as there were bad chunks for one of the dbspaces. Do we have to have all dbspaces and chunks available when we bring the system up for the first time? Once we have done this is there anyway to recover the data without restoring from archive? We want to try to avoid that as it is not a trivial exercise to make a complete duplicate of the live system. Any help would be much appreciated. Regards Malcolm
